The magic of 'Navilunio' in Santa Cruz de Tenerife

The end of 2019 is just around the corner and soon we will enter a new decade. Did you already decide how you want to end this year? An interesting plan might be to go for a walk in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and do some last-minute shopping, this last weekend of the year. But it would be even more attractive if you could enjoy different activities and concerts in the streets during the day. Are you going to miss out?

On 28 December the first edition of ‘Navilunio’ will be celebrated in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, from 11:00 am. till midnight. It owes its name to the time of the year we are in (Navidad), an event formed by a series of acts that will take place throughout the day in the capital. This way, they take advantage of re-using the program of ‘Plenilunio’, a similar event that could not take place due to heavy rain.

Face painting

There will be music and dance performances throughout the day, face painting, storytelling and workshops for children, archery, treasure hunt, and a medieval market are some of the activities that form ‘Navilunio’. All day long there will be events for all tastes and shops with extended opening hours for those who need to make last minute purchases. On top of that you can enjoy a drink in one of the many bars or eat tapas to regain strength.

Santa Claus

There won’t be a lack of sports, as this weekend the Night Race will take place at 19.00 pm. At a cost of 10 Euros you will receive a Santa Claus clothes kit, and part of the money collected will go to the basketball team ‘Club de la Piruleta’ the first ‘inclusive sports’ team of the Canary Islands. Before this all starts, there will be a Zumba masterclass and a solidarity walk. The perfect excuse to lose the extra kilos we gained these holidays and support the cause.

The events are held at various places in Santa Cruz, like Plaza de La Candelaria, Parque Bulevar, San Francisco square, Military Historical Museum of the Canary Islands, Mercado Nuestra Señora de África and the Casa del Carnaval. You better wear your comfortable shoes if you want to enjoy the day,  because there are many interesting events in different parts of the city center. However, moving from one place to the next won’t be a problem, because you can use our public transport, like the tram, taxi or ‘guagua’ the Canary Spanish word for bus.

Without a doubt, the perfect excuse to do your last purchases and enjoy and celebrate what will be the last weekend of the year. Again, don’t forget to bring your comfortable shoes and the desire to enjoy this magical event in the capital of Tenerife.
